A NONPROFIT FOR FAMILIES OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

From the wound comes the gift.

A Calm Pause to see and celebrate the gifts within the journey of raising children with special needs.

That line came from a parent. And if it landed somewhere in your chest, you probably know exactly why.

WHO WE ARE

A space to slow down and breathe

Calm Pause Foundation is a Canadian nonprofit built around one simple truth: caregivers carry an enormous load. We exist to help them put it down — even for a moment.

Calm Pause Foundation is a Canadian nonprofit built around one simple truth: parents and caregivers of children with special needs are quietly carrying something enormous. The appointments, the advocacy, the meltdowns in grocery stores, the nights you can’t sleep because your mind won’t stop — you know this life. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, your own needs tend to disappear.

We exist to create space. Space to slow down. To breathe. To sit next to someone who gets it without you having to explain everything from the beginning. We’re not here to fix your situation. We’re here to remind you that you are not alone — and that there are gifts buried inside this journey, even on the days when you can’t see them yet.

You are never alone.

WHAT WE OFFER

Six ways we walk alongside families

Real programs designed for the way caregivers actually live — not the way brochures say they should.

Parent Support Groups

Quiet, peer-led circles where you can speak freely with other families who understand. No agenda, no fixing — just being known.

02

Practical training on the topics caregivers ask about most: communication, regulation, advocacy, sibling support, transitions.

03

Family Coaching

One-on-one guidance to help you think through hard decisions, build routines that fit your family, and protect your own well-being.

04

Social & Recreational

Sensory-friendly outings and family events where your child can be themselves and you can finally relax a little.

05

Caregiver Wellness

Mental health support, mindfulness, and retreats built for the unique exhaustion of caring for a child with special needs.

06

WHO WE SERVE

Wherever you are on this road

From the day of diagnosis to twenty years in.

We serve families at every stage — from the parent still numb from a new diagnosis, to the caregiver who’s been doing this for two decades and is tired in ways that don’t have a word yet. No formal diagnosis is required for many of our programs. We welcome every background, every culture, every language, every family structure.

If you’re a grandparent raising your grandchild, you belong here. If you’re a single parent who’s never had a moment to think about your own needs, you belong here. If you’re still figuring out whether anything is “wrong” and just need someone to talk to, you belong here.

The work continues because people give.

Every donation keeps a parent support group running, a workshop free, a coffee with another caregiver possible. Even $5 a month helps.
